KUYA: Building a website as transformative as the healing journey.

When I first started the project for Kuya, a new holistic wellness center in Austin, I knew it was essential to fully understand the heart of what they were offering. The center’s mission was clear: to help people struggling with mental health and chronic illness overcome their challenges through natural, holistic treatments. The facility, still under construction, was state-of-the-art, but it was the treatments themselves—blending natural methods with scientific approaches—that intrigued me the most. I immersed myself in learning about each condition they aimed to treat, understanding the therapies they would offer, and researching similar wellness centers. This deep dive helped shape my vision for how their story could be communicated visually and emotionally.
As I began the research phase, it became evident that Kuya’s unique approach—combining both natural healing and scientific treatment—was the cornerstone of the brand. The challenge was how to represent this blend in a way that was both informative and emotionally resonant. I needed to present clinical information, yet do so in a way that felt warm, hopeful, and aligned with the center’s natural healing ethos. Striking that balance was my primary focus, ensuring that visitors would feel informed yet inspired when they explored the site.
When it came time to execute the design, the project became a true collaboration between myself and the developer. We both took great pleasure in bringing the site to life, particularly through the use of animated drawing scrolls (SVGs) that added a dynamic, organic touch to the experience. Each page was crafted with care—custom-designed to match the tone of the copy and convey the wellness center’s holistic approach. The goal was to create a site that wasn’t just functional, but also visually engaging, offering a seamless experience that reflected the heart of Kuya’s mission: providing natural healing in a space of hope and transformation. The finished project wasn’t just a website; it was a digital experience that told the story of a new beginning for those seeking a better path to mental and physical well-being.
